Since 1990, October is marked as the month of awareness, combat, and prevention of breast cancer. During this period, Pink October aims to make all women aware of the disease, and even more, the importance of taking exams and discovering the disease at the beginning. After all, breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the world.

Main signs and symptoms of breast cancer

According to the Ministry of Health, the main symptoms are:

  • Lump (nodule), usually painless.

  • Reddish or orange-peel-like breast skin.

  • Changes in the nipple (nipple) or spontaneous outflow of fluid from one of the nipples.

  • Small lumps in the neck or in the area under the arms (armpits).

Realizing that something is wrong with your body is the first step to knowing when something is not right. This process of self-knowledge should be something routine.

Prevention is the best medicine

According to INCA (National Cancer Institute), there is not only one cause but several factors that influence breast cancer. The risk of developing the disease increases with age, especially from the age of 50. However, this does not guarantee that you should only worry when you are close to that age, prevention is constant.

Practicing physical activity, eating healthy, avoiding the use of synthetic hormones, such as contraceptives and hormone replacement therapies, maintaining body weight, and avoiding alcohol consumption help reduce the risk of breast cancer. Breastfeeding is also considered a form of prevention.

When breast cancer is diagnosed in the early stages, this influences the treatments that will be used. Therefore, we emphasize the importance of detecting early and if you identify something, look for a doctor.

Know your body, do the self-exam and take care of yourself.
